Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pair my iPhone or iPad with my Mac?

Open DeckPilot on both your Mac and iPhone/iPad. Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, or connect your iPhone to your Mac via USB cable. Your Mac will appear automatically in the iOS app — tap it to connect. Your Mac will show an approval notification — click Allow. That's it! If direct connect doesn't work, you can fall back to PIN pairing (4-digit code shown on Mac) or QR code scanning.

My devices won't connect. What should I check?

First, make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network — or try connecting your iPhone to your Mac via USB cable (works automatically). Check that Local Network permission is enabled for DeckPilot in your iPhone/iPad Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. If you're on a corporate or public network, the network may block device-to-device communication — try USB or a home network instead. Restarting both apps usually resolves intermittent issues.

How do I create or edit button decks?

Open DeckPilot on your Mac and click "Decks" in the menu bar dropdown. From there you can create new decks, add pages, and configure individual buttons with keyboard shortcuts, app launches, or AppleScript actions. You can assign decks to specific apps so they switch automatically when you focus a different window.

Is my data sent to the cloud?

Your real-time commands, button layouts, and macro configurations never leave your local network. All control traffic travels exclusively over Wi-Fi or USB between your Mac and iPhone/iPad. However, DeckPilot does use a cloud account system (powered by Supabase on SOC 2-compliant infrastructure) for authentication, subscription management, device registration, and aggregate usage statistics. Your pairing key is generated fresh by DeckPilot for each pairing session and is not related to your Apple account or any other app credentials. Importantly, your Mac must explicitly approve every pairing request before any device can connect, and actions can only be configured from the Mac app. See our Privacy Policy for full details on what is stored and how.
